What does it mean to be an Annoucer

Since October 2024, I have been able to host weekly on Radio Humber, and as someone who enjoys talking for hours, it's a match made in heaven but not everyone can talk for that long and still be as interesting, and in the beginning, I did suffer from it. To be an announcer, you need to plan a lot. Spend as much time finding out what to say on the radio and while it's easy to pull your phone and find what everyone is talking about, nobody online can find your opinion on matters and that is where you can shine. The goal of radio is to be able to invite any listener no matter who they are or what their interests are and keep them for as long as possible.

Once you grab the listener's attention with an interesting bit, this is where the responsibility of a Radio Announcer plays in since now in the palm of your hand, holds not just someone's attention but feelings and emotions since what you say on the radio truly matters not just in the "let's keep it PG" way but the message you deliver on the radio can affect someone's day or even life.

In late 2024, I interviewed Dr. Vindi Persaud. The host of Dharmic Milan on 89.1FM NTN Radio in Guyana. During the interview, she went on to say how being a radio host is not just one entertaining another while playing music but rather you can change lives just by the things you say. Use the platform of radio to get your message out there and be a voice of reason as this world is not perfect and some of us are far from it just trying to keep going or find motivation, so be that motivation.

Be the light in someone's day, be the person who is willing to talk to someone who needs a little motivation and while you may never know the results of your actions, you can rest assured that someone is always listening while you host and just a little positivity can go a long way in anyone's life. Overall, being an announcer is a lot of fun. Having the creative freedom to make a show yours is the best feeling but more importantly, being an announcer is a responsibility that you must amend to since at the end of the day, share your laughs with your co-host and anyone who is listening at home, school or work since being a personality that can talk for hours and not get boring can really affect someone's day and even make it better
