How to balance Radio and Exams

Balancing your radio show with exams and final assignments? Yeah, it’s a lot. Trust me, I’ve been there. The pressure is real, but it’s totally possible to manage both without losing your mind. It just takes a bit of planning, some prioritizing, and remembering why you’re passionate about both in the first place.

First things first, get organized!!! It might sound basic, but a good old-fashioned to-do list or planner can be a game changer. Write down your exam dates, assignment deadlines, and radio shift times, I do this with a whiteboard in my room but even your notes app on your phone is more than enough. Once it’s all in front of you, it’s easier to see where you can carve out space for everything. No surprises. No panic.

When it comes to your radio show, plan ahead as much as possible. If you know you’ve got a tough week coming up, try prepping your segments earlier (maybe on the weekend or on a lighter day.) Get your scripts, music choices, and any talking points ready in advance. Even just outlining the flow of your show can save you big-time later in the week when the assignments are piling up.

Another tip: don’t try to do everything at once. Multitasking might seem like a good idea, but switching between projects or essays while prepping a music break usually ends in burnout. Instead, block out specific times for each task. Give your radio show the focus it deserves, then switch back to schoolwork. You’ll get more done and feel less overwhelmed.

Also, don’t forget to take breaks! I know it feels like there’s no time, but your brain needs to breathe. Go for a walk, grab a snack, or even listen to another show for inspo. Sometimes stepping away for a bit helps you come back stronger.

Most importantly, remember why you’re doing this. Your show is your creative outlet, your voice, your space to be you. School is important, but so is your passion. With a little bit of structure and a whole lot of determination, you can get through finals season and still make radio magic happen. So deep breath, you’ve got this!
